This week, leading up to Pentecost, members of lay ecclesial movements from around the globe are participating in the Second World Congress of Ecclesial Movements. I am surprised by how little coverage is being given to this event. The lay movements are numerous -- check out Zenit's continuing publication of descriptions of the hundreds recognized by the Vatican -- and are a real important development in the life of the Church and its renewal. Here in Chicago, Cardinal George has taken an interest in fostering the lay movements and is hosting his own gathering of the movements present in the diocese, paralleling the gathering to happen with the Pope.
I did find some coverage at Vatican Radio's website. But has anyone seen more thorough coverage? Three cardinals and the movements are reflecting on the beauty of being a Christian and ecclesial maturity. I would love to read their reflections.
